WARNING: Due to the wiki's open and collaborative nature, it cannot guarantee the veracity of outside links or the absence of possible scams involving charities, thus the potential danger of fraud exists. In particular, beware of bogus organizations that have names similar to those of well-known aid agencies. Also beware of unsolicited emails that ask for your donation online. For those who want to make a donation, the most secure channels are established web sites and well-publicized telephone hotlines.

General notes

Many employers in United States match your contributions to charities. So if you contribute $100 the employer would put another $100. This way you could effectively double your contribution. Check with your employer and find out which charities are matched by your employer and make a donation to one of those charities.

Contributions to organizations classified under United States IRS Section 501(c)(3) are tax deductible. [ (,,id=96099,00.html)] has info on exemption requirements.

We have received reports that Monetary Donations from the United States would be more beneficial (at the current time) as there are some logistics issues with moving clothes and other food items. Please consider this while making your donation. Source: [[1] (]

  • [2] ( Amritanandamayi Math

Mata Amritnanadamayi's main ashram or center, the M.A.Math, is located in Alappad Village, the worst hit area in Kerala, S. India. More than 140 people were killed in the tiny village.

Amma, announced that her center, would dedicate one billion rupees [$23,364,486 US] to reconstruct homes in Southern India that were completely destroyed by the tsunami on 26th December 2004.

As thousands in the area are currently homeless, the center has already started constructing temporary shelters to house them until the new homes are completed. This is being done on a 10-acre property owned by the ashram about 1 kilometer away.

Food, essentials and medical aid continue to be provided to evacuees at the different camps in Southern India. Psychiatrists from AIMS (the super-speciality hospital run by the center in Cochin) have also been helping the medical team, as there are many cases of trauma and depression. Ashram cleaning teams make regular rounds cleaning campsites. AYUDH, the Math's youth wing, is actively participating in the cleaning.

Amma's center is also allocating 1,000 rupees to each family for purchasing household items. A total of 15 million rupees [$350,467 US] have been allocated for this purpose.

The center will also provide free education and counseling to those children who have lost both parents in the tragedy.

Besides the rehabilitation and reconstruction of houses in Kerala, the center is also helping tsunami victims in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.

Under the direction of Amma, the center has been providing food, shelter, clothing, medical assistance and emotional support for the affected since the moment the tsunami hit the Indian Coast.

Since 1998, the center has built and given away more than 30,000 houses for the destitute homeless throughout India as part of its Amrita Kuteeram Free Housing Project.

All donations are TAX DEDUCTIBLE and can be made at this secure site or mailed

Indonesian Non-Governmental Organizations

Posko Kita / Our Relief Center

Go to for contact information, how to donate, updates.

POSKO KITA / OUR RELIEF CENTER provides community-based support for those affected by the tsunami in northern Sumatra.

Established by Indonesian non-governmental organizations involved in human rights, environmental protection, women's issues, the peace movement and news media: Aceh Kita (Our Aceh Perempuan PeKa (Women for Peace and Justice) Solidaritas Perempuan, (Women's Solidarity for Human Rights) NADI (Natural Resources and Development Initiative) and other organizations and individuals.

We are part of the Koalisi Masyrakat Sipil untuk Korban Gempah dan Tsunami (Indonesian Civil Society Coalition for Tsunami Victims).

Operating in Banda Aceh and hard-hit coastal areas of northern Sumatra, through extensive networks of community activists, our short-term goal is generating and deploying 500 volunteers, drawn from local communities and fishing villages in Sumatra, as well as from experienced logistical organizers, nurses and doctors from other regions. All volunteers must be able to work under extraordinarily difficult conditions. Posko Kita volunteers have helped organize a communications and volunteer coordination center, public kitchen, field clinic, and refuge at the Forum LSM Aceh (Aceh NGO Forum) in Banda Aceh. The NGO community has suffered the loss of key human rights and environmental activists. We will to attempt to locate those who are still missing. Posko Kita will increasingly focus on the specific needs of women and children who are often underserved in these circumstances.

Posko Kita is now supporting about 150 volunteers at the Banda Aceh relief center. Most of the volunteers are from Aceh and northern Sumatra, including many from local fishing and farming villages. Every effort is being made to involve the victims in providing relief, clearing up the mess, counseling, and cooking. In Jakarta, we have 25 volunteers who work night and day to coordinate efforts and send food and medicines to the victims of the tsunami in Aceh and North Sumatra.

Volunteers are providing relief in 40 villages along the north coast of Aceh for a few days at a time, then returning to the relief center in Banda Aceh for supplies and sustenance. They have identified basic needs and provided supplies to 40 refugee "camps" which are often not really camps, but are places where hundreds to thousands of refugees have gathered, for example, at a television station, a park, the local Parliament building. The relief center is providing community-based health and trauma counseling, especially for women and children. We are working together to restore a hospital (re-establish electricity and cleaning). We estimate it will take 5 days of work to get the hospital in shape.

PLEASE DONATE ( and help us provide more volunteers, medical supplies, food, clothing, sanitation, and logistical assistance.
